View Curriculum Sixth Grade

The following subjects are required for sixth grade:
 

Mathematics
This subject is required each year through tenth grade, or longer if the student has not successfully completed Algebra 1 by that time.

Note: You may, or we might, choose different courses from different grade levels if they are more appropriate for your student. CLASS reserves the right to modify course selection based on standardized test scores, course availability, and previous course assignments.

Course Description: The topics of Arithmetic 5 are reviewed and expanded with divisors up to four digits; use of exponential notation within prime factorization; GCF and LCM calculations using prime factorizations; decimal-fraction-percent conversions; range, mean, and median; and word problems involving ratios, percent increase or decrease, simple interest, commission, and property taxes. Area and perimeter concepts are extended to include circles, triangles, parallelograms, polygons, and more complex figures. Also included are logic charts, algebraic multiplication including parentheses, comparing negative numbers, and geometric terminology plus use of a compass and a protractor.
