Description:

This course combines grammar and writing (in alternating chapters) to teach students both the mechanics and the use of English. Grammar topics include a study of sentences with some diagramming, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and references skills. Writing topics use the five-step writing process and include: comparative-contrast essays, persuasive business letters, diamantes, sense poems, personal narratives, book reviews, research reports, and more.

Description:

This course continues the study of the parts of speech, capitalization, word choice, and punctuation. It also expands a student’s exposure to writing through writing different types of sentences, letters, paragraphs, outlines, and book reports. In addition, students are taught how to use a dictionary, thesaurus, and encyclopedia. Sentence diagramming is included.
