A Heart of Thanksgiving: Finding Joy in the Everyday

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)

November naturally turns our thoughts toward Thanksgiving, family gatherings, and the many blessings God has provided. But gratitude is more than something we celebrate around the dinner table once a year. It is an attitude of the heart that we can cultivate in ourselves and our children every day.

As homeschooling parents, it’s easy to become focused on what still needs to be accomplished. Lessons to finish, papers to grade, schedules to manage, and the everyday responsibilities of family life can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed. Yet tucked into those ordinary moments are countless reasons to give thanks. A child finally understands a difficult concept. A younger sibling learns from an older one. A meaningful conversation happens during a history lesson. A family gathers around God’s Word before beginning the day. These moments may seem small, but they are part of the beautiful privilege of educating our children at home.

This November, we encourage you to slow down long enough to recognize God’s faithfulness in the ordinary. Your homeschool doesn’t have to be perfect to be a place where children grow in knowledge, character, and love for the Lord. And that is something worth celebrating!

Staying on Track as the Holidays Approach

With Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, family schedules often become busier. A little planning now can help keep your homeschool running smoothly through the holiday season. Here are a few helpful reminders:

1. Review your student’s progress. Take a few minutes to look over completed lessons, tests, and assignments. Are you progressing toward your family’s academic goals?

2. Keep test submissions current. Submitting tests periodically throughout the school year allows your family to benefit from the evaluation and feedback services provided through Christian Liberty Homeschools.

3. Plan for holiday interruptions: One of the blessings of homeschooling is flexibility. Consider adjusting your schedule to accommodate family gatherings, church activities, and holiday traditions while keeping your educational goals in view.

4. Keep copies of submitted work. Remember to retain copies of tests, papers, reports, and required samples of daily work before mailing original materials to CLH.

5. Ask questions when you need help. Our team is here to support you. If you have questions about academic requirements, submissions, or your family’s progress, please contact us.

Curriculum Spotlight

Teaching Thanksgiving Across the Curriculum

Thanksgiving provides a wonderful opportunity to bring history, Scripture, reading, and practical life lessons together in your homeschool. Here are several simple ways to make learning meaningful this month.

๐Ÿ“– Bible: A Heart of Gratitude

Read Psalm 100 together as a family. Discuss what it means to serve the Lord with gladness and enter His gates with thanksgiving. Encourage each child to identify three blessings from God and explain why they are thankful.

๐Ÿ“œ History: The Pilgrims and God’s Providence

Explore the Pilgrims’ journey to America, the challenges they faced, and the role their religious convictions played in their lives. For younger students, read a story about the Pilgrims and discuss their experiences. Older students can research the Mayflower Compact and consider how biblical principles influenced early American communities.

โœ๏ธ Language Arts: A Thanksgiving Letter

Invite your children to write a letter expressing gratitude to someone who has made a difference in their lives. It might be a grandparent, pastor, teacher, missionary, or family friend. Younger children can draw a picture and dictate a short message.

๐Ÿ‚ Science and Nature: God’s Provision in Creation

Take a family nature walk and observe the changes taking place during autumn. Discuss how God designed the seasons and provides for His creation. Collect colorful leaves and use them for a simple science observation or art project.

๐Ÿก Family Activity: Our Thanksgiving Blessing Jar

Place a jar on your kitchen table and encourage family members to write down something they are thankful for each day. On Thanksgiving Day, read the notes together and thank God for His many blessings. Sometimes the simplest traditions become the most meaningful memories.

What Are You Thankful For?

One of the greatest blessings of Christian Liberty Homeschools is the families we have had the privilege of serving throughout the years.

For more than five decades, parents have entrusted us with a part of their children’s educational journey. We are grateful for every family, every student, and every opportunity to support Christian home education.

This month, we’d love to hear from YOU!

What is one thing you are especially thankful for in your homeschool this year? Perhaps it’s a breakthrough in learning, a special family moment, a challenge you’ve overcome, or simply the blessing of spending another year learning together.

We invite you to share a short testimony, a favorite Thanksgiving activity, or a photo of your family’s homeschool experience. With your permission, we may feature selected stories and photos in a future newsletter or on our social media pages.

Send your stories and photos to: [email protected]

Your story may be just the encouragement another homeschooling parent needs!
